the first step

i am starting now to prepare for the journey. possibly i will be ready for the 2007 season, but 2008 may be more reasonable...it all depends. i am looking for fellow hikers. i decided doing it alone was not a good idea for me. partially that is because i am profoundly hearing impaired. that shouldn't scare anyone off as once i am around you for awhile i can understand you perfectly. i am in PA and have done parts of it here.

  • the excitement has begun!

check out whiteblaze.net It is a great resource for connecting with fellow hikers and finding hiking partners.

And don't worry about the hearing impairment. There were several people I met along the trial with various ailments - blind in one eye, titanium knees, etc. It may make things more challenging, but definitely NOT impossible!

    Congratulations!!!!
  • It has helped me to not let the obstacles of disability...
determine the content of my experience...
    to be defined by boundaries...
    instead of dreams.

Personally I will not let Epilepsy keep me from doing...
    what I love sooo much...
because I there is a possibility I could get hurt.
I no longer want to compromise... for the sake of common sense.

Do things to facillitate your trip more smoothly...
    as a hearing impaired person.
    Adapt, improvise, overcome.

I am doing the JMT solo on Saturday.

It is a warm up for the PCT in 2008.

Exalt the challenge as a springboard...
for achieving what you once thought was not possible.
