A couple of friends of mine and I decided to hike the Appalachian Trail next year (summer 09) and I've already been doing a lot of research. I hear there are some good guide books specific to the AT. Does anyone have a favorite that they would recommend? Or any that they wouldn't recommend? Thanks!&lt;/div&gt;

My name is Parm I did a flip-flop in 2003 starting at Springer in July so I am sure I met almost none of you here owing to my late start.  Anyway, I just wanted to introduce myself and I am curious if any of you out there are eyeing the triple crown in one year thing.  Thats my next challenge when time and funding permit and I would love to touch base with anyone who shares that interest.

    <title>hiked 300 miles in 1997</title>

    <summary type="html">&lt;div&gt;My husband and I hiked the AT in 1997 from Gatlinburg to Pearisburg under the trail names Gypsy and Mufasa.  Are there any other thru hikers here that we may have met?  We were not married at the time, "Mufasa" actually proposed to me on the trail (while camped out on the lawn of Mountain Mamma's).  That hike was the most amazing time of my life.  I would love to do it again someday.  We met one of our best friends on the trail too, he hiked with us for several weeks, went by the name of "Betwixt".&lt;/div&gt;
